Can I buy a lien check on its own?

No, lien checks are not available for purchase on their own and cannot be purchased/added later to a Vehicle History Report.


When you purchase a CARFAX Canada Vehicle History Report + Lien Check or a Vehicle History Report + Lien Check (BC) there's a lien check included.


The 3 Vehicle History Reports + 1 Lien Check also includes one lien check.

Can I get a free Value Range on any vehicle?

There are some rare instances when a value is not available for a vehicle, including:  

  • If the vehicle was manufactured before the year 2000 
  • If it's not an automobile (e.g., motorcycles, RVs, boats, etc.) 
  • If the vehicle is a rare or exotic unit 
  • If the vehicle is valued at less than $1,000
  • If the vehicle has an odometer reading less than 500 KM or more than 500,000 KM

Can I get a History-Based Value on any vehicle?

There are some rare instances when History-Based Value is not able to provide a valuation for a vehicle, including:

  • If the vehicle was manufactured before the year 2000
  • If it's not an automobile (e.g., motorcycles, RVs, boats, etc.)
  • If the vehicle is a rare or exotic unit
  • If the vehicle has negative branding (e.g., stolen, unfit, salvage, rebuilt or non-repairable)
  • If the vehicle is valued at less than $1,000
  • If the vehicle has an odometer reading less than 500 KM or more than 500,000 KM

Can I get another lien check with my 3 Vehicle History Reports + 1 Lien Check purchase?

No, additional lien checks cannot be added to your order as lien checks are not available for purchase on their own.


If you need an additional lien check, we suggest purchasing a CARFAX Canada Vehicle History Report + Lien Check or CARFAX Canada Vehicle History Report + Lien Check (BC) from www.carfax.ca/order.

Can I order a report for a “classic” vehicle?

Unfortunately, not.


If you wish to verify the past history, current condition and/or the lien status of a classic vehicle, please:


  • Take a thorough test drive
  • Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic or auto technician to ensure the vehicle is functioning properly
  • Speak to the seller to discuss vehicle history further. They have service, damage, repair and/or other documentation to share with you
  • Contact the province's personal property security registry for more information on obtaining a provincial lien search for a classic vehicle

Can I purchase add-ons for my 3 Vehicle History Reports + 1 Lien Check order?

The only add-on available to 3 Vehicle History Reports + 1 Lien Check is the "Add ICBC Check" option which costs $20.00 + tax. This add-on is optional but recommended for vehicles with current and/or prior BC registration history. If you need additional reports, please visit www.carfax.ca/order

Can you get a Lien Check and/or ICBC data on your VHR with Vehicle Monitoring?

When purchasing a Vehicle Monitoring subscription, the VHR does not include a lien check, ICBC check, or a History-Based Value.

Do CARFAX Canada reports have U.S. information?

Yes, we obtain data from all over Canada and the United States. So, if the vehicle is currently in the U.S. or has ever been in the U.S., we will report on all U.S. history available to us that you would expect to find for Canadian vehicles such as registration history, service history, open recalls and damage history.


Please note, we do not report on U.S.-based liens. If you are interested in a U.S. vehicle's lien status you will have to request that information from the seller/owner of the vehicle.
