Rebuilt (branding)
A salvage vehicle that has been repaired. It must have been certified or passed inspection to allow it to be registered and operated in the province.

We would also recommend speaking with your provincial vehicle registration authority to further ensure vehicle can be registered with and operated in your province.

Recovery amount
In some instances, a claim amount reported to CARFAX Canada may reflect a recovery (or subrogation) amount. That value represents the cost paid by an owner’s insurance to resolve the claim, minus the dollar amount later recovered by the same insurance company.
A recovery amount may be recorded in cases where:
- Repair costs paid by the vehicle owner’s insurance company were later reimbursed by another party’s insurance.
- Vehicle replacement cost paid by the vehicle owner’s insurance company was later “recovered” by the insurance company, either through reimbursement by another party’s insurance and/or through the re-sale of the vehicle.
Recovery amounts are very common with insurance claims related to:
Sometimes the recovery amount by insurance is not equal to the initial expense, which can result in claim amounts that differ from the estimated/actual repair cost and/or the value of the vehicle itself.
